Ontario's economy. Its health is essential to the high standard of
living enjoyed by many citizens in the region. Over 60 primary mills and
value-added manufacturing facilities operate in northwestern Ontario
producing commodity products such as lumber, pulp, and paper, in
addition to value-added products such as structural building components.
Forestry sector activity in the northwest also supports a sizeable
forest resource management sector engaged in harvesting and
transportation, management services, and tending activities such as tree
planting.
